Cascade USFS Fish Survey Day 3:3

  • 26 Sep 2024
  • 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Cascade USFS Office

---CANCELED BY CASCADE FOREST SERVICE---

The Cascade US Forest Service is looking for help doing a  fish survey on small streams in the Cascade Area.  Volunteers need to be able to hike in. Bring waders or hippers and be prepared for Fall weather. At the request of the USFS, registration is limited to 2-3 people per day.  Bring your own lunch and water.

The area fires have pushed back the fish survey plans, and could cause us to cancel if they flare up. Updates will be sent to registrants.

TIME: Meet at 9AM Mountain Time. Back to Cascade by 5pm.
WHAT:  Sampling trout populations on 3 streams out of upper Cabin, Spruce Cr, Warm Lake Cr, and Foolhen Cr.

WHY:  Help map species distribution and look for undocumented bull trout populations

HOW:  Backpack electrofishing

WHERE: Cascade USFS Office

Meet District Fisheries Biologist Dave Mays at the USFS office in Cascade, which is on HW55 next to the old Ashley Inn, which is now the NOBO Inn. Map Below.

Directions: Take Hwy 55 North from Boise to Cascade, about 80 miles. It takes about two hours, with possible construction delays. Volunteers are encouraged to carpool.  Next year we hope to setup a fishing event to coincide with the electrofishing.
