Ice-out usually occurs in late March and fishing can be excellent and on occasions frenzied those first couple of weeks after ice-out. Spring fishing on the Duck Valley reservoirs can be cold so don’t forget your fleece pants and other warm clothes and remember to dress in layers.
As with years past you can expect most fish range between 16 and 22 inches with a few big fish in the 24 inch. Fish are caught on leech patterns of various colors, Sheep Creek Specials, Wooly Buggers, and Stayner Ducktails.
Fishing Permits can be purchased in Duck Valley at the store and tribal headquarters, the Fishing Hole in Bruneau, and in Boise at Sportsman’s Warehouse, Idaho Angler, and Cabela’s. Permits are $15 per day.
Primitive campsites are $6 per day, and campsites with electricity and water are $15 per day and require a reservation. Reservations have to be made at the Owyhee Ace Hardware Store (775) 757-2305 (next to the grocery store. The early spring can get busy at Duck Valley so make your reservations early if you want a site with power.
