BVFF Meet-Up Platform Being Tested

23 Apr 2026 7:38 AM | Troy Pearse (Administrator)

One piece of feedback from our recent BVFF membership poll was the desire to be able to meet-up with other club members for informal fishing outings.

The BVFF BOD did a quick test of several group texting platforms and decided that Spond was the best fit.   Spond is a free, group management app designed to simplify organizing events for sports teams, clubs, and, social groups.

At the March meeting we asked for a volunteer to help lead the Spond Meet-up platform and Larry Fry stepped up to figure out how to best setup the tool for our use.

The current plan is to send out invitations to all current BVFF members to join the Spond BVFF Meetups group. Those people who are interested in doing meetups will join that group. Only BVFF members will be allowed to be in the Spond BVFF Meetup group.

Being a member of the Spond BVFF Meetups group means that you can create an informal fishing meet-up event and invite others to join you.  You will have the choice to invite individuals from the group, or the whole group.  And you can set a limit on how many people can join the Meet-up.

Once you accept an invitation to a meet-up event, you can send and receive messages to others who are in the meet-up event (those messages do not go to those people who haven't accepted the meet-up invitation).

Larry is working out the details now and we hope to have the platform put together in time for use this summer.  You can read more about the Spond app at their website.

It is important to understand that although BVFF is putting this meet-up tool together for members to use, meet-ups are not formal BVFF events.  To that end, we are working on a document describing the Terms of Use and Waiver. ( BVFF Terms and Waiver v1.1.doc )

Many thanks to Larry Fry for stepping up to figure this out for the club!
