Jerry Wade Nielsen, 70, of Ashton, passed away on December 30, 2023, at his home.

Jerry was born on January 21, 1953, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Dean Randall and Barbara (Bobbie) Wilhite Nielsen. He grew up in Idaho Falls and graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1971. He furthered his education at the University of Utah, Boise State University, and the University of Idaho. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business.

On August 22, 1973, he married Gail Darlene Hopla in Idaho Falls. They had three children: Jeremy Mark, Misty Gail, and Jodi Lee. Gail and Jerry later divorced.

Jerry lived across Idaho, Tucson, Arizona, and Washington DC. He worked for several banks, Gritman Memorial Hospital, Safari Club International, and the American Red Cross.

He was involved with several clubs such as the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, The Red Cross, Idaho Rivers United, Henry's Fork Foundation, Idaho 2 Fly, and the Forest Service Road Surveyor. He enjoyed being outdoors and was passionate about conservation issues. He lived for fishing, hunting, skiing, camping, and hiking.

He had a love of Idaho and a goal to drive every public road in the state after he retired. Jerry never met a stranger and loved engaging in conversation and swapping stories with anyone and everyone.

He is survived by his son, Jeremy Mark Nielsen of Mitchell, South Dakota; his daughters: Misty Gail Nielsen of Meridian, Idaho, and Jodi Lee (Trevor) Stapelman of Burley, Idaho; his sister, Bobbie Dean (Bob) Jockumsen; and 7 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Dean and Bobbie Nielsen; and his brother, Mark Nielsen.
