Fly Fishing for Texas Gulf Coast Redfish Tom Governale Tom has lived in Boise since 1984. He claims to have started fishing before memory and has no consciousness of ever not fishing, and therefore, believes he was born a fisherman! Tom has a passion for pursuing fish with a flyrod – cold, warm and saltwater species. He is a non-discriminating fly fisher and divides his time between rivers, lakes, oceans and cold and warm water. His freshwater catch list includes just about anything that swims - the five Pacific salmon, numerous trout species, grayling, char, whitefish, bass, bluegill, northern pike, carp catfish, garfish, rock bass, suckers, and many others. Saltwater species include bonefish, permit, Giant, Golden, Blue, and Silver Trevally, Redfish, Trigger fish, shark, Jacks, Barracuda, Puffer fish, and more! Tom enjoyed a 36+ year in the Parks & Recreation profession before retiring in 2017 from the City of Boise as the Superintendent of Parks. Shortly after retiring he joined the Idaho Angler Team and currently works as a Guide and Fly Fishing and Casting Instructor. BAYFLATS Lodge Seadrift, Texas Bay Flats Lodge is located in Seadrift, Texas on San Antonio Bay just south of Matagorda Bay and north of Corpus Christi on the Texas Gulf Coast. Sight fishing to tailing and cruising Redfish from a poling skiff is the main fly fishing game at this lodge. In its' 50 year history, Bay Flats lodge was originally an alligator, duck hunting and spin fishing lodge and has only recently begun catering to fly fishers. The 2023 Idaho Angler fly fishing excursion to Bay Flats was the lodge's first official group of fly fishers to visit the lodge! And the Redfish were cooperative! Come see and hear about the sight fishing opportunities, customer service, guides and equipment at this 5 star Texas lodge.
